Where this came from

Last summer, I took my children back to a place we had visited the year before — with Paul. Everyone told me it was a mistake. I went anyway.

I knew I needed somewhere familiar. Somewhere that already knew us. But with everyone's doubts ringing in my ears, I panicked that I had made a terrible choice. So I did the only thing I could think of: I made myself a plan.

I put together 14 activities — one for each day of the holiday. Each one designed to help me process what I was feeling, honour Paul, and give my grief somewhere to go that wasn't just spiraling.

"Paul may not have been with us physically on that holiday, but he was there in our thoughts. I allowed myself to step away each day, and I had somewhere to put my grief in a healthy way."
